I attended the GRTC Tech NOW event yesterday (12/10/08) and was surprised to see how many people were in attendance. Not only numbers of people, but the quality of the people that are currently out of work --there are some really experienced people available right now.
Steering Committee Meeting
Wed Dec 3 from 0800 - 1000
Sun Microsystems Innsbrook Office
4870 Sadler Pl, Suite 101
Glen Allen, Virginia 23060
All members are invited to attend.
I spoke w/ Bala Muthuvarathan this morning and moved the Advanced Hibernate meeting to Wed Feb 18.
Attendance at the past two meetings was about 14 and I was pretty disappointed that we haven't had a better turn-out for quality NFJS speakers like Erik Hatcher and Andy Glover.
We will not do well to attract/encourage future speakers if turnout continues to be poor, nor will our steering commitee memebers and sponsors feel as though their time and money are valued.
On Tuesday June 17 at 6 PM, Richmond area design and technology related user groups will gather to introduce themselves to the Refresh members and the members from other groups in attendance. We will discuss the purpose and focus of our groups to see what synergies might be developed.
Please see refreshrichmond.org for further information.
Jeff's Groovy presentation is at the following link: http://richmondjug.com/system/files/thoroughIntroToGroovy_jeffBrown.G2One.pdf
We will be organizing the new site in the next few weeks, creating a special section for past presentations.
I wanted to spread the word about the second annual beCamp in Charlottesville May 2 & 3.
beCamp is an 'un-conference' self-organized, self-run. I attended last year and the experience was pretty awesome. Everyone is encouraged to bring at least one topic to at least chat about, although prepared presentations are nicer if you have anything. If you don't feel you can speak to any particular topic you can always volunteer or help organize.

The Richmond Java User Group exists to unite regional Java-oriented people and organizations.
Our primary goal has always been to be the provider of a focal point to the Java community, to help us educate each other about the practical aspects of Java software development, practices, processes, industry trends, etc.
